- American Quarter Horse
The American Quarter Horse is the first breed of horse native to the United States. The breed evolved when the bloodlines of horses brought to the New World were mixed. Foundation American Quarter Horse stock originated from Arab, Turk and Barb breeds. Selected Stallions and Mares were crossed with horses brought to Colonial America from England and Ireland in the 1600’s. This combination resulted in a compact, heavily muscled horse that evolved to fill the colonists passion for short distance racing.
- Want a Quarter Horse
If you are looking for a horse that could help out on a farm or a ranch rounding up cattle, or for a tough horse that can compete in races and competitions, then you may want a Quarter Horse. This is an American horse breed that got its name for being able to race at a good pace for a quarter of a mile. It is a pretty tough breed, but also good for taking on a leisurely ride.
- Good Trail Horse
I am not partial to any one breed, including a grade horse, if he has the traits I need. In our area of the Rocky Mountains, we see a lot of Quarter Horses, Paints, Morgans, Arabians and all manner of crosses. We also see a lot of gaited breeds like Tennessee Walkers and Missouri Fox Trotters.
- Great Deal Horse
I met a woman in California who was in her 50’s. She decided that she wanted to do endurance riding on a more serious level. Her present mount was a very suitable, kind, generous, trustworthy Quarter Horse cross mare, but she had been convinced by the other competitors that in order to be competitive.
- The Perfect Horse
I strongly advised her to rethink her decision because in my eyes, for what she used her horse for 99% of the time, she already had the perfect companion. She wouldn't hear of it because she had been to a big time Quarter horse show and suddenly.
- UK Horse Racing
In France the following day Longchamp’s Prix d’Ispahan always draws the top mile and mile and a quarter horses and this a race that mustn’t be missed as a key pointer to some of the season’s top races over this classic ten furlongs.
- Majestic Arabian Horse
The American Quarter Horse and National Show Horse. Strains of the breed were also introduced to the Lipizzaners of Austria, as well as numerous other breeds around the world.
- America Horse Museums
An Orientation Theater acquaints newcomers to this fabulous horse. The Museum contains photographs, artifacts and videotapes of historic horses, colorful people, and landmark events associated with the quarter horse.
- Selecting a Horse
American Quarter Horses are perfect for the intense training required for competitive racing, but also have the sure-footed step necessary for making the quick turns and negotiating rocky terrain.
- Horsing Around
They were brought by Spanish Conquistadors and explorers in the 16th century. TBD: Apparently a species of horse developed in America, but died out, possibly due to disease, so there was no native horse.
